You’ve just gotten your driver’s license and your mother or father has given you the keys to their car. The first thing you do when you can finally be alone in the car is to speed. Teenagers account for a large number of speeding tickets given out each day.
To the new driver the thrill of having the vehicle completely under their own control is exhilarating. Pressing on the accelerator they feel the power of the car in their hands. The last thing on their minds is getting a speeding ticket. Unfortunately many teenagers do get speeding tickets within their first year of driving.
There are steps parents can take to help reduce the risk of their child getting a speeding ticket. The best solution for a teenager for beating a speeding ticket is to avoid it in the first place. If they take the issue of speed seriously they are much less likely to break the law by traveling faster than the posted limit.
Children learn by example and if they are in the back seat of the car while their parent is racing along the road well above the speed limit, they will mimic that behavior once they get the chance. Even children who have taken driver’s training will revert back to the behavior that they’ve seen behind the wheel all of their lives. They translate the actions of their parents on the road to being acceptable for them as well.
Therefore it’s important for parents to lead by example and show their children that speeding isn’t something they can do. To a young driver, the fine is what they will most feel when a police officer hands them a citation for speeding, but that ticket will impact their driving record and their car insurance premium rates as well.
